WhatsApp reminders for patient follow-up visits

When a doctor sets a review date in UpcharHub, the software now sends the patient a WhatsApp reminder the evening before. The message contains the patient's name, the doctor's name, and the clinic date. This is included in your regular ₹399 ₹99 subscription with no per-message charge.

Most patients miss the review date

Our own data and published studies from Indian clinics show the same thing: only about 4 in 100 patients come back for a follow-up. Patients take the parchi home, start their medicines, and lose track of the day once symptoms improve. The reminder is meant to change that, and we will say here what it actually does once we know.

Automatic message the evening before

To set a date, tap one of the chips on the screen: 3, 5, 7, 15, 30 days, or choose a date on the calendar. At 7:00 PM the evening before that date, UpcharHub delivers a WhatsApp message to the patient's phone with the visit details. The doctor does not have to do anything extra. The prescription itself can go the same way — the parchi on the patient’s WhatsApp.

Sent from UpcharHub, not your personal phone

The message is sent from UpcharHub's WhatsApp business account. The patient sees 'UpcharHub' at the top of the chat, not your private mobile number. If a patient asks at the OPD counter who sent the message, the front desk can explain it came from the clinic's software.

Only sent when a phone number is entered

UpcharHub does not make phone numbers compulsory. The front desk can still register a patient with just a name and age, and the OPD slip prints normally. The reminder goes out only if a mobile number was entered on the chart.

No message packs or recharges

There are no SMS balance packs to buy and no per-patient fees. WhatsApp delivery is covered in the standard UpcharHub subscription. Whether your clinic sees ten patients a day or sixty, the software cost stays the same.

Questions

Answered plainly.

Does this guarantee the patient will come back?

No. We have not measured whether attendance improves with these reminders. It only ensures the patient receives a direct reminder on their phone the evening before.

Will patients get the doctor's personal phone number?

No. The reminder comes from UpcharHub's official WhatsApp business account. Your personal phone number is never shared in the chat.

What happens if no phone number was collected at the desk?

Nothing is sent. If the chart has only a name and age, the record saves as usual and the reminder step is skipped.

How does the doctor select the follow-up day?

Use the day chips on the visit screen: 3, 5, 7, 15, or 30 days. You can also pick a specific date manually if your OPD is closed on certain weekdays.

Can patients reply to the WhatsApp message?

Replies go to an automated inbox, not to the clinic or doctor. The message includes your clinic contact details so patients can call the front desk directly.

Can the reminder message text be changed?

No. The text follows an approved WhatsApp template containing the patient's name, doctor's name, clinic name, and appointment date.

Where does “about 4 in 100” come from?

From our own records: of 56 follow-up dates our doctors set whose day has passed, 2 patients came back — June to September 2026, about twenty doctors. It counts return visits recorded in UpcharHub, so a patient written on paper counts here as a no-show. Published work from Indian clinics reports the same picture: a self-pay clinic at AIIMS New Delhi lost 68% of its patients to follow-up (Maru et al., 2007).
